Scott primed for soggy Sandwich

Updated July 16, 2011 09:54:51

Adam Scott believes the bad weather predicted for the British Open this weekend could work in his favour at Royal St George's.

The Australian enters the weekend on 1-under, just three shots behind leaders Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland and American Lucas Glover.

With heavy showers and 30 km/h plus winds predicted for the final two days at The Open, Scott said his game was ready for the elements on England's south-east coastline.

The Queenslander has deliberately planned his schedule around the majors this year and spent plenty of time tuning his game at the course in Kent.

"I don't want to spend the next two days in the rain but I would not mind if it played tough," he said.

"I think that would be good for me.

"I am striking the ball well, over two days in tough conditions I think my ball striking can hold up.

"Look, around this kind of course it is going to be tough to get the ball close you are not going to have that many opportunities.

"You are going to have to make some par putts.

"So I better putt well over the weekend."

Scott handled the wind in 2009 when he won the Australian Open at the New South Wales Club in Sydney.

Compatriots Jason Day (70), Robert Allenby (70) and Robert Green (71) enter Saturday sitting on 1-over.

Canberra's Matthew Millar (72), in his first major, just made the cut by sinking a knee-trembling putt on the final hole to be 3-under for the tournament.

"It was about two foot but it felt like about eight," said the world number 922.

"It was a bit of a struggle coming in.

"It is awesome, I have been working towards this for ages."

British amateur champion Bryden Macpherson (73) and Rick Kulacz (70) both just missed out on weekend action after bogeying the 18th.

Geoff Ogilvy (73) and Aaron Baddeley (73) also failed to make the cut.
